For almost a century the Montblanc name has represented the pinnacle of writing instrument design and craftsmanship with fountain pens that were highly regarded and sought the world over.

Mountblanc began life as the Simplo Filler Pen Company with the first Montblanc being produced in 1910. The famed white star symbol did not appear on a Montblanc pen until 1914. The Meisterstuck (or Masterpiece) was introduced in 1924 and with it came a lifetime guarantee. During this time Montblanc was aggressively advertised with images and posters saturating Germany, the name of Montblanc was everywhere.

The Montblanc line survived the war although the Montblanc factory was bombed in 1944. The first piston-filled Montblanc was made in 1930, before that they used a push button system.

Down the years the Montblanc range has been extensive with pen design changes at various intervals. In 1949 the shape of the Meisterstuck changed from a squared off shape to the torpedo shape that we see it today. The Monte Rosa was introduced in 1952 aimed at the student market. The 149 Diplomat is the pen that many people now associate with Montblanc and is easily recognised by its large shape and the black resin finish.
